Dr. David M. Black grew up in Santa Monica, California, attended college at UC Santa Barbara. He earned his medical degree at Tulane University and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Utah. He subsequently completed a hand fellowship in Hartford, Connecticut, before entering practice in Longview, Washington, where he now resides. He has been a partner in Longview Orthopedic Associates since 1986.

Dr. Black is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and also holds Subspecialty Certification in Surgery of the Hand. For more than 20 years, he performed congenital hand surgeries each month at Shriners Hospital in Portland, Oregon, and was a clinical instructor in orthopedics at Oregon Health Sciences University.

Dr. Black’s wife, Kathryn, also a physician, practices anesthesiology in Longview. The Blacks have two children.

In addition to spending time with family, Dr. Black enjoys water sports, snow skiing, and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. His love of climbing has taken him on multiple expeditions to Yosemite, Alaska, and even to the north face of Mt. Everest.
